Happy safari day!!🦒🦛🙈
While the other days have been amazing, I was definitely excited for the safari. We started this morning off bright and early by meeting everyone by the bus at 6 am. Unfortunately, we got told our trip was being cut short a day due to the Ebola outbreak, but we weren’t going to let that stop us from seeing God’s creation!
So we headed out around 6:15. About an hour later, we stopped at a place called Blue Sky Hotel for breakfast. The pineapple was AMAZING (per usual), and the rest of the food was delicious too. From there, we drove about another hour and a half to the wildlife park we were doing the safari at. It was super cool because the top of the van was raised up, so we were able to stand up and get really good views. The second we entered the park, we started seeing all sorts of animals! We saw zebras, giraffes, hippos, baboons, elands (which were very rare to see), warthogs, gazelles, water buffaloes, lots of birds, and some monkeys! Part of the safari included walking through some knee-high grass to get close to the giraffes. That was totally my favorite part because we were able to get so close to them!! Then we got back in the van and made our way to a water hole, where we saw the hippos, as well as some other animals, cooling down. Once we finished that, we got back in the van and stopped at a little gift shop where everyone got some cool things! From there we made our way to lunch and it was so nice because everything was prepared for us to eat as soon as we got there. It was delicious! After we were all full, we went to Lake Mburo, where we saw two more hippos! It was so peaceful outside, and it was fun watching the monkeys around there too. We hung out there for a little while before heading back. The ride from the lake to where we were eating dinner was about 2 and a half hours long. The road was incredibly bumpy, but it’s okay because it was a pretty drive!
Finally, we arrived at the Banda hotel, where our dinner reservation was. Once we got there, we all changed into the clothes that Vocational School had made for us and went upstairs to be seated. The food we ate there was definitely the best food we have eaten the entire trip! It was all so fresh and yummy. The ice cream was also a plus. Then Riley, Dillan, Ryan, Rhodes, and I took lots of pictures in our new African outfits, which was so fun! At the end of the night, we loaded back up on the bus to head back to our hotel. This day was totally packed, but it was definitely one of my favorites. Even though it’s sad our trip is getting cut short, it was a great last day!🦒🦒
