Well Hello!! Today, on this rainy morning, we started off with an unexpected sight that weirdly makes sense. As we all came down for breakfast, we saw Gabe and Sarah B rocking a new look… and well, per their request, I will just leave it at that. This morning was honestly FULL of surprises.
I feel it’s important to mention what we had for breakfast; it might have been one of my favorite meals. Although I am biased, I LOVE breakfast. But we had FRENCH TOAST !! This is what we had on, I believe, our first morning here, and honestly, I have been hoping for it again ever since. I have to admit, the chef at the Nabisere Hotel does know how to make some pretty good French toast. The perfect ratio of syrup and cinnamon sugar. While we all ate and enjoyed our lovely breakfast, Mrs. Holly broke the sad news that we cannot go to Ninzi today to say our farewells to the work crew and see all the progress due to the rain and treacherous roads. Big bummer 🙁
However, that did mean we had more time at the equator, which meant PIZZA!! Anna B had been hyping up this pizza all week, so we were all very excited. Plus, it was a good break from the traditional Ugandan meals we experienced all week. While we did have to wait for what felt like an eternity, the pizza did live up to the hype. We basically all ordered margarita pizzas, with the exception of Gabe, who got Hawaiian pizza (wrong trip, buddy!). Weirdly, we were so very quiet while devouring our lunch.
After we had all finished our food, we shared our “High-Low-Water Buffalo-AyOhs” of the entire trip. To explain, your High and Low are what they sound like, the best part and the worst or hardest part. Your Water Buffalo is something that was weird or funny that happened, and your “AyOh” was a shoutout to another team member on something cool they did that you wanted to give recognition. Then we got to go SHOPPING!! We had 30 minutes before we had to be back on the bus, so it was a great opportunity to learn some great bartering skills (I witnessed Ava get a price lowered by 5,000 UGX!!) and get some fun trinkets to bring home with us!
After lunch and shopping it was time for our long trek to the Best Western hotel and CJs (as Cole insists on it being called) !! CJs might be one of the best restaurants here in Uganda (its one of the only ones we’ve been to), the food is amazing, especially breakfast. We had some super great conversations, and honestly, it was the best way to end our week here in Uganda !!
Now, I know I’ve really only talked about food in this blog post. Yes, I do really love food; it might be my favorite thing in the world after Jesus, of course! But I think it is also important to touch on something I have noticed this week, and honestly, what God has taught me.
I went into this week with a prayer. A prayer of pureness. One of my favorite worship songs is “Pure” by Abbie Gamboa and Upper Room. There is a lyric that goes:
“Not for anything that I could ask or gain, Just to honor you and bring you praise […] there’s no motive, there’s no hidden catch, here’s my all, and I don’t want it back” (Gamboa and Upper-room)
I think this week I have really learned a lot about pureness. The idea that everything that we have done this week is not our own work, we can not take credit, and we are not the ones who choose the outcome. Rather, God is in charge, He gets the glory, He is in control. I have learned about pride and humility. About what the true intent behind my actions is. We were not here this week to make ourselves known, to be able to post on Instagram saying, “Look at all this good I did.” Rather, we are here to make God known, and to say “look at all the good that God has done !!”
Anyways, this past week here in Uganda has been one I will truly never forget!! I am so very thankful for the opportunities that the Lord has presented me with this week and my amazing team !!
