What a great start to the week! God is so good! This morning we woke up, ate breakfast, and then headed out to the Master Cares Christian School. When we arrived, we were greeted with lots of waves from the kids and smiles that could light up a room.
Today we held our first sports camp! We split into four groups, each with a different station. We had netball, volleyball, soccer, and kickball. All of the students in Primary Six and Seven came out, split into groups, and rotated between each sport. At the end of our time at each sports station, we shared either our testimony or one of our favorite Bible stories. They were such great listeners and were very engaged, listening so intently to everything we shared with them. That was a great way to start out Monday morning!
After that, we ate lunch and met our interpreters, who would walk with us into the streets to evangelize. My group had Eva as our translator, and she was amazing! You could see the joy flowing out of her! The most impactful part of the day was definitely going out on the streets and sharing the gospel. We met so many people with different backgrounds, some who had never heard the gospel before, and others who had heard it many times but had never accepted Christ.
There was one moment that especially stood out to me today! We went up to two girls sitting on a bench playing cards, one of whom was named Abigail. We walked them through the gospel and explained what it meant to be a follower of Jesus. They listened but said they were not ready to make that commitment yet, so we prayed for them and started to walk away. But suddenly they waved us back over. One of their friends had been listening from behind them, and Abigail had told her what we had shared. Their friend then told us that she wanted to accept Jesus into her heart. She asked us, “How do I do that?”
I shared with her Romans 10:9: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” We prayed with her, and she accepted Jesus into her heart. It was such an incredible moment to witness!
As we were leaving, I was the last one to say goodbye. I shook her hand and told her, “You just made the best decision of your life.” She gave me a big smile, and right as I was leaving, she quietly told me that this was the fourth time in her life she had heard the gospel, and today she finally felt the Lord calling her to accept Him.
That moment reminded me of something so important: it is not our job to bring people to Christ or change their hearts. It is our job to live a life that glorifies God by sharing this love and the message of the gospel. Our job is simply to plant a seed. Someone had planted that seed in this girl’s heart long ago, and every time she heard the gospel, it was watered. This time, it finally clicked, not because of anything we did, but because the Lord had been slowly working in her heart. It was so amazing to witness! And something that was so impactful for me!
