At Bethlehem Community Hospital, we are privileged to witness miracles of healing, restoration, and hope. Few stories capture that reality more powerfully than the story of Suuna.
Nearly two years ago, Suuna’s life changed in an instant.
A devastating boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) accident left him with a severe compound fracture of his leg. As a farmer living in rural Uganda, Suuna faced a challenge familiar to many in his community… he simply did not have the financial resources to access the specialized medical care his injury required.
With no other choice, he continued working to provide for his family despite the pain and worsening condition of his leg. Over time, the injury healed improperly, leaving him with significant disability and little hope for recovery.
Then, more than a year ago, Suuna’s path crossed with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Chris Miller during one of our medical mission outreaches. After carefully evaluating the injury, it became clear that years without proper treatment had left only one viable option to restore Suuna’s quality of life: amputation of the damaged lower leg above the knee.
It was a difficult reality to face, but it was also the beginning of a new chapter.
In June 2025, Dr. Miller and his team performed the delicate surgery at Bethlehem Community Hospital. Following the procedure, Suuna faithfully committed himself to rehabilitation and recovery while our team began exploring what seemed like an impossible next step…obtaining a custom prosthetic leg.
In the United States, creating and fitting a prosthetic limb typically requires numerous appointments, specialized equipment, repeated measurements, fittings, and adjustments over an extended period of time. Those resources and conveniences were simply not available.
What was available, however, was something even more powerful.
A team of skilled professionals who love Jesus, generously offered their expertise, and were committed to serving others with excellence and compassion.
Working across continents, the team gathered precise measurements, coordinated logistics, and prayerfully pursued a solution. During a mission trip in March of this year, Suuna received his initial fitting. Adjustments were made, refinements were completed, and on our most recent mission trip, the moment everyone had been praying for finally arrived.
Suuna received his completed prosthetic leg. Then something remarkable happened. For the first time in years, he stood and walked without a walker. Without assistance. Without someone holding him up. Step by step, Suuna walked forward into a future that once seemed impossible.

This story is about far more than a prosthetic leg. It is a testimony to what happens when God’s people faithfully use the gifts He has entrusted to them to serve others. It is a testimony to the dedication of Dr. Miller and the orthopedic team, the generosity of partners who made this journey possible, and the perseverance of a man who refused to give up.
When asked about his journey, Suuna’s life speaks a simple but powerful message:
“I won’t quit.”
Because of God’s faithfulness, the skill and compassion of His people, and the determination of one man to keep moving forward, Suuna is walking again.
What once appeared to be the end of his story became the beginning of a new one—a story of healing, hope, and the life-changing power of Christ working through His people.
